Our Veterinary Team
In 2000 Ralph was awarded his MBA Degree at Henley on Thames in the UK, after 5 years of long distance learning and uses this knowledge in his position as managing partner.
Ralph is married to June and they have two sons. Outside interests are clay pigeon shooting for which he has represented Kwa Zulu Natal and South Africa. In September 2012 Ralph was awarded his National colours in American skeet and represented South Africa at the World Championships in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr Emma Schonken
Emma graduated as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort in 2021 and completed her community service year in Bizana in 2022. She went on to complete her MSc in African Horse Sickness in 2024, deepening her expertise in equine infectious diseases.
Her main areas of professional interest include critical care and emergency medicine, ophthalmology, and internal medicine. Outside of the hospital, Emma enjoys birding and spending time with her dogs and horses. Her passion for equine health and hands-on clinical approach have established her as a dedicated member of our veterinary team.
Dr Ellie Canning
Ellie graduated as a veterinarian from Onderstepoort in 2024 and completed her community service year in Standerton in 2025. Having grown up in Summerveld, she has been part of the local equestrian community from a young age—an experience that has shaped her strong understanding of horses and their care.
Her professional interests include equine lameness investigations, diagnostic imaging, and wound management. Outside of her veterinary work, Ellie enjoys birding, spending time with her horse, Protea, and training her dog in agility. Her deep local connection and dedication to equine health make her a valued member of our team.
